'Islam denounces suicide attacks'

Senior Lebanese cleric Mohammad Hossein Fazlallah has described suicide attacks as 'indistinguishable' from cruel acts against human beings.

"Suicide attacks originate from extremist fatwas. They seek to create legitimate impression under the guise of credos like resistance against occupying forces and/or protest against totalitarian states," Press TV in Beirut quoted Fazlallah as saying on Monday.

The senior cleric noted that such attacks which target Muslims or peace lovers are expressly forbidden by Islam and are synonymous with crimes against humanity.

Fazlallah, meanwhile, called on Islamic groups to review their ideology and refrain from suicide attacks, urging Muslim nations to leave no stone unturned for such actions.

"Such moves do not comply with Islamic Sharia. Official authorities as well as world states should strive to exercise justice and social freedom," the senior Lebanese cleric concluded.
